On a special interview episode of the #mavpuckcast, Bridget interviews National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Commissioner Heather Weems. The NCHC is the conference that the University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverick Hockey team has played in since the league’s inaugural season. Weems is entering her third season as commissioner. Immediately prior to her time as the NCHC commissioner, she was the Director of Athletics at St. Cloud State, and had stints at the University of Denver and Drake University. Weems discusses the state of the NCHC, challenges facing NCAA men’s ice hockey in today’s athletic environment, the student-athlete experience, the conference’s online streaming service (NCHC TV), getting more media coverage for the sport, ways to attract more female fans to NCHC games, and the “day in the life” of a hockey conference commissioner.
