Wrapping Up The Weekend: Miami Series (Feb. 8-9, 2019)

The “Mavpuckcast” is back for Episode 18. Topics: Red Hawk Clippings, Odds & Ends, Mavs v. Huskies

Omaha Hockey goalie Evan Weninger was named Bauer NCHC Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 4-10, 2019. 

Weninger — who might be the best performer on the team in the second half this season — made 60 saves on 64 shots faced at Miami. 

In addition, the senior goaltender topped 3,000 saves for his career (closing in on the record set by former UNO goalie Dan Ellis in 2003).

UNO Hockey Coach Mike Gabinet, senior forward Ryan Galt, and freshman defenseman John Schuldt answered questions in the “Omaha Athletics Weekly Media Availability” on Feb. 5, 2019.

Incoming UNO Hockey recruit Brandon Scanlin was named the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Week (Jan. 28 - Feb. 3, 2019).

The defenseman plays for the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and has a five-game active point streak. He tallied 5 points in three games last week. 

Scanlin, 19, has 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) in 29 games this season. 

Brandon should be a welcome addition to the D-corps next season for the Mavericks. Another offensive-defenseman should be a welcome addition to the roster.
