Tuesday, October 08, 2024 1:20 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

Omaha Mavericks Hockey Coach Mike Gabinet received a contract extension through the 2027-28 season (per the UNO Athletic Department).

Gabinet is currently leading the Mavericks into the 2024-25 season. This is Gabinet’s eighth season at the helm of the UNO Hockey program (he was elevated after one season as the team’s associate head coach in 2017).

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Gabinet is 117-114-18 during his tenure as UNO’s head hockey coach.  The Mavericks have twice appeared in the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament since he has been at the helm.

Gabinet’s best result at Omaha came in the 2023-24 season. The Mavericks went 23-13-4, making it to the championship game of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff and earning a trip to the NCAA regional in Sioux Falls.

UNO has had a winning record each of the past four seasons (the most consecutive winning seasons in program history).

Gabinet is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and played for four seasons with the Mavericks (2000-04).

The Mavericks start the 2024-25 regular season campaign at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 11-12. Omaha takes on UMass in the first game of the tournament on Oct. 11.
