If you look at the team this season (and last), a number of the players who have had a significant impact out of the gate are ‘transfer portal’ players (Conley, Knoepke, Tychonick, Randl), and players previously committed to other schools who landed at UNO (Sundberg, Abate, Miller). Ward and Saville committed prior to Gabinet taking the reins... and both are top performers as well.
(Bohlsen was originally a Minnesota commit... and I’m excited to see him play.)
My hope is that some of the younger players who have verballed have a similar sort of impact.
Rollwagen, Berg and Guévin are exciting looking players — and seem like they can have an immediate impact. A number of our recruits are playing for Muskegon in the USHL (and look good so far).
I’ll be interested to see what happens with some of the 2023 and 2024 classes. It’s such a long way down the road that I’m not sure (especially with the Quebec and Euro players).
That said, I still think transfer-type players (that aren’t on our radar) will be key for Gabinet & Co. going forward.
Have we seen John Schuldt or Travis Kothenbeutel this season?
I’ve wondered where they’ve been....
I’m most excited to see UNO play an actual road game this season. Last season the Mavs had a solid 7-9-2 record on the road, but only tallied ‘3’ road wins in the 2nd half (2 were at Colorado College). How they do on the road will tell us how far they’ve come...
