That may be true, but I don’t think the number of seniors graduating necessarily dictates the number of recruits necessary. 18 forwards, heavy on freshmen, gives the development internal to the program a chance. True, they won’t be 5 star recruits with NHL opportunities signed and sealed, but we aren’t getting those guys at present are we?
A couple words on this weekend. In terms of effort, the same guys show up. Abate, Conley, Brushett, Sullivan. On D it’s Stewart, Jones (yes Jones!) and Knoepke. The freshmen D looked “ok”, but I would have a serious talk with the rest of them. I also really like Enns.
On the rest of the forwards, some guys just showed up and others I really question why they are consistently in the line up other than the fact that their isn’t anyone to challenge their playing time. Getting pushed over with one hand, a signature move of dumping the puck in, staying out of the corners and waiting for someone to go in for you don’t breed a lot of opportunities. This isn’t one guy, but if you need names you’re not watching the games.
Previous discussion about one player was led with ‘I don’t see it...’ but to date he is one of the hardest workers on the team with a bunch of assists. Always engaged, always working the dirty areas. Snake bit on goals, 2 crossbars and FIVE posts, but that will hopefully change.
i also give props to Boyer and Sundberg. Physical presence and effort.
there, I feel better after watching some of the most frustrating hockey in the last 22 years... (and based on what Gabinet said, and didn’t say, I bet he agrees with me...).
