Watching on NCHC, taken down with a virus, thoughts...
1. Saville didn’t get enough action to judge.
2. All of the freshmen seemed to have pretty solid first outings, but a lot of the details may have been missed based on my not being there.
3. Some call outs:
1. Brushett looked really good.
2. Weiss seemed to be making good decisions, a lot to look forward to...
3. I really liked Roy’s involvement.
4. I really think Roden will battle for #1 and if we end up with 2 solid goaltenders down the stretch, it may be an interesting year...
Agree with your bullet points, Jim.
Alex Roy is a tall, solid, fluid skater who has terrific puck handling skills. I think he'll be a terrific blue liner for UNO this season.
I also liked the looks of both Saville and Roden in net. Roden — who logged the most playing time — seems like he'll be a workhorse in net.
Brushett played a lot of minutes. Expect him to be a difference maker this season.
Any word on why Sullivan missed the game? Hopefully nothing serious. I would like to see Abate and Boyer kick it up but that could have been just the day, what was at stake, and being new. I agree Jon, Roden is going to be a workhorse. I think Chris said something about those Tukka Rask eyes! :)
Had the chance to watch Nolan Sullivan when he was in town with the Muskegon Lumberjacks last season for a two-game/two night matchup with the Omaha Lancers.
I think he'll be solid when I finally shows up in the lineup. Seems like one of those "high I.Q." players with size to match.
When we were at the "Dinner With The Mavs" last week he wasn't mentioned as an injury by Coach Gabinet.
However, Dean Stewart was on crutches.
Speaking of Rask, here's Chris at drop in when nobody plays defense. And sometimes even when the defense if just fine....
Riley Alferd told me before the game that Stewart was hurt. No details. Riley also thought Klehr would play. I figured he'd be a healthy scratch.
At the end of the 1st period I saw the 3 scratches heading down to the locker room from section 212. Dean was on crutches and Jordan was helping him down the stairs. Not sure what just saw that.
Hope Stewart returns soon, he was really one of the bright spots last year and I was very pleased he got the C...
Did you see who the best faceoff guy was for Omaha?
I didn’t, I wasn’t kidding about the virus and I was running a bad temp. I did get a bit bored, so wasn’t really ‘on’. Travis did a pretty good job from the stats, but physically leaves a bit to be desired against the NCHC centers. Like you said, Pulkkinen is a known, Conley has the smarts but needs the dot time. I think Boyer, Brushett and Prokop all have experience but Juniors is one thing, UMD, DU and UND another. Hear that Sullivan is a solid centerman as well, surprised he was a scratch. I’ll be there this weekend and will have a better feel. Long non-answer I know, but it’s all I got.
