another good weekend for the mavs getting a win and a tie.    I really can't complain about the tie.   even back to the ccha days alaska trips have never been very kind to the mavs.  without looking it up think they started out on a 0-8 stretch at UAF.

a bit of the excitement left me for next weekend after wisconsin got swept but should be a good test.  Wisconsin has some talent up front lets see how the mav defense responds.

Du keeps rolling along nicely.  I see very little weakness in that team.

WMU gets a win and a tie.  I was really high on WMU at first but are they a) inconsistant b) Bowling green is pretty good? or a combination of both -- verdict still out.

St cloud -- woof.  lucky to escape with a tie saturday.  defense was supposed to be a strong point.  the early returns have not been promising.

noticed air force finally got a win.  that's a bit of a surprise.

Maine with a nice win and tie against BU.  maine isn't back, but they have had a good start.

Haven't talked about notre dame but a nice win and tie against umtc.  notre dame looks like another fundamentally sound team again this year.  keep an eye on them.

There's a difference between UAF and UAA though, as far as quality of program.  The UAF program of CCHA days was solid.

Minnesota won in OT too, I'm sure Notre Dame wasn't stoked about that tie.  I don't pay too much attention to scores, thought I saw BC won, they must've gotten some good new recruits in for people to believe they're going to be better, still surprised they were even "down".

To me the biggest surprise is how solid DU is (so far) this season.

They really haven't fallen off since the departure of Coach Montgomery (to the Dallas Stars) in 2018.

Speaking of UAF during UNO's CCHA days...

Former UAF head coaches Tavis MacMillan and Dallas Ferguson are the assistants at Denver.

A lot of solid experience (in terms of recruiting, systems, and strategy) on the bench for the Pioneers.

Mavs split this weekend and there is a lot to be positive about.  a couple defensive mistakes on Friday otherwise that may have been a sweep.

I like the fact that UNO seems much more balanced offensively this year. next week begins the meat grinder nchc schedule at lawson.

St. cloud gives up 3 3rd period goals saturday but able to sneak out a W.  I dare say that pick of 5th by the media seems optimistic.  st cloud has some issues they need to get figured out

UMD with a very nice win against DU.    has UMD finally turned the corner after a less than steller start?

UND pummels a very bad miami squad.  sets up a very interesting contest against DU next week.  UND looks to be very good so far.  next week will tell us something about this years UND squad.

Harvard looks to be very good.

Notre dame with a nice sweep against osu.   very impressive weekend for the irish.

St Lawence beats union in ot in what can only be described as a battle of the ECHC cellar dwellers.

and the tennis balls were flying at dartmouth  -- a very under-rated hockey tradition.

I like UNO’s chances at WMU...

That said, you never know what will happen in the “meat grinder” that is NCHC play.

I have to believe UMD will figure things out (and I agree, the win against DU was a nice one). There is just too much talent on that team to be down this season.

UNO with another nice weekend on the road earning a hard earned split with western michigan.  can't complain about this weekend at all.  would like to see the mavs cut down on penalties.   great opportunity for a sweep next weekend.

UMD continues their rather inconsistent play.  came out flat on friday and lost to a not very good miami squad.

the long season in st. cloud continues getting swept by cc.  first sweep by a scsu opponent in a year and a half.

UND very impressive weekend.    It's not so much the offense that's impressive but the defense.  they are near the top of the county in penalty kill and DU had no room at all in the offensive zone.  UND indeed looks back.

Harvard and Cornell continue their impressive starts

the gophers have some issues.  they have been badly outplayed in the 3rd period in their losses.  the fire bob motzko thread has already started on gpl.

Mercyhurst gets boat raced on friday only to come back and earn a split.   I was very surprised not only at the score friday but that mercyhurst came back to win saturday.

Welp: very disappointing weekend for the mavs as they only get a point.  good thing miami's goaltender remembered why he is a perpetual door holder at the last second.  big points for miami without the services of Ryan Larkin.

Can't really assign blame to any one area for UNO: goaltending wasn't good, but neither was the rest of the team.   UNO has a terrible record on parents weekend, but this was a weekend that UNO should have had more than a point.  -- not good.   It doesn't get much easier as UMD comes rolling in.

UMD put the league on notice with their sweep of a not terrible cc team.  UMD has been a little inconsistent but when they are on their game that's a tough out.

I don't know what to think about the split between WMU and DU.  DU woke up their offense saturday with a 6-1 beat down.   both teams have shown flashes of being great but Western has injury issues and DU should be a little concerned about their offense vanishing for long stretches

Its extremely weird to see scsu at the bottom of the standings.    UND did what they needed to do this weekend.  UND looks to be very very good.

Mike Schaffer and Rand Pecknold renewed their close friendship over the weekend with cornell coming away with the W.  I have not seen cornell this year but all indications are they are the cream of the ECHC with harvard not far behind.

How about Michigan state? Now 4-1-1 in the big 10 with wins over penn state and notre dame.  Michigan state getting some balanced scoring.   nice to see the Spartans playing well.

Maine fell back to reality land getting swept by northeastern.

BU got a tie against lowly vermont.  rumor has it BU is looking to bring in another Goalie at the break.  something to keep an eye on.

Quinn, we disagree on some things and that’s ok. But your take on the weekend in Omaha is spot on. With the exception of the first 5 and last 1 minutes of Friday’s game, not a lot to cheer about. Dumb penalties, lack of quality shots, our penchant for major penalties and lack of forcing the opponent to win one on ones continues to plague a relatively talented team. Disappointing. Now things get tough...

Jim, we disagree on some things and that's ok.  It's the same reason I don't like texting, people always take things more negatively than they were likely intended.  I never mean disrespect.

Thanks Ryan, I was just reading more into it than necessary. One second of an otherwise bad week. No harm. ; )
