For those of you keeping tabs, UNO allowed Matej Tomek to go represent Slovakia at Winter Universiade (World University Games) in Russia.

It looks like this has been a very positive experience for Matej.

    • 03/01 OTL vs Russia(2-1) - 43 saves on 45 shots
    • 03/03 W vs Czechia (7-2) - 32 saves on 34 shots
    • 03/05 DNP vs Japan
    • 03/07 W vs United States (6-3) - 24 saves on 27 shots
    • 03/08 W vs Hungary (4-0) - 13 saves on 13 shots
    • 03/11 W vs Kazakhstan (4-0) - 47 saves on 47 shots

The current goalless streak is 125:24. Slovakia plays Russia for gold tomorrow.

Tomek has registered a 1.19 GAA and .963 SvP.

My fear is that he’ll decide to leave and play pro hockey next season...

Interesting that he didn't get any time early in the season. The game he did get in, I remember thinking that he looked uncomfortable. I wonder what the thought process on this is...

The problem is what happened at Grand Forks. He basically sat for two full seasons.

The start against Notre Dame was probably ill-advised on Gabinet's part. Matej needs to play a full NCAA game. He hasn't yet in his career.

Understood. I was probably being unfair.

Slovakia lost 2-1 to Russia for gold at the Winter Universiade.

Tomek made 52 saves in the loss.

Really hoping the experience gives him some confidence going into next year. I don't think we should expect to ride Saville - or even anoint him the starter, yet.
