A couple new recruits announced today.
One bantam age player...
...and a 21-year old goaltender. Jacob Zab - who hasn't played above the NA3.
This makes a few gears turn. Clearly both Roden and Zab are coming in this year (both have aged out of juniors). Makes we wonder if Tomek is coming back. Hoping that is not the case - would prefer to carry 4 tenders on the roster... especially if we have three in the same class.
Hoping we will redshirt one of these guys.
William Rousseau (2003) and Matthew Maltais (2004?)
My guess is that Tomek is gone...
Well, it's no secret, anymore:
It's Saville's net next year.
I haven't been this scared about a goaltending situation at UNO since... Aarnio, Barrett, Kaufmann.
Says? No news on Tomek, at least public. Like I mentioned to you, goaltending is my biggest fear and we are putting an awful lot of faith in 3 recruits un-proven at this level.
this is the last thing I saw and it supports the Slovakian angle...
Matej Tomek, Junior, Univ. of Nebraska Omaha
If you forgot about the Flyers’ lone college goalie prospect, no one can blame you. Tomek has jumped from the University of North Dakota to the USHL’s Waterloo Blackhawks to Nebraska Omaha since 2015. He also played just four games this season.
Philly will hold onto the Slovakian’s rights for another year, but it will take a big improvement and some playing time from Tomek to earn a contract.
It's not going to happen here.
I have a source stating that Tomek has left school.
My guess is that Matej is going to surface in the Slovak Extraliga.
I’ve been told by two separate sources that Tomek is gone.
Also hearing a couple other players won’t return next season (I won’t mention names until it becomes public).
I also need to do profiles of the commits we’ve obtained since March (I’ve been busy then past two months).
Goaltending situation definitely leaves a lot of question marks. Pretty excited to see how it all goes down.
A lot is riding on Saville this season...
That said, I think Roden will surprise us. The BCHL wasn’t known for its defensive play last season, and he was solid for Merritt.
In goal, we’ve over relied on Wennie for 3 years. It will be interesting for sure. A couple leaving? Perceived impact?
It's hard to predict who will succeed based on junior success.
That said, if I had to rank the North American junior leagues on likelihood of success, it would look like:
USHL, BCHL, AJHL, NAHL, SJHL, OPJHL, MJHL... other
the gap between the USHL and BCHL is substatial, but not nearly as much as the gap between the AJHL and NAHL or the SJHL and the other two below it.
