Something to consider about the final days of Dean.

He would've been easy to recruit against: "How long is he going to stay?". It's the same line football teams used against Penn State before Paterno vacated.

You can't use that line against Gabinet - hence his ability to recruit further out.

If Gabniet (and specifically Noel-Bernier) are intent on mining Quebec for talent, I think you're going to see more and more early commits.

Kids in Quebec generally don't think of college hockey - they think QMJHL. Which means we need to get to them before age 16 or 17.

What with all the unanswered questions in Miami, I wonder if they have any 4star recruits looking to find solid ground? ; )

I think Gabs should call that Ryan Savage kid from Fargo. Seems like a nice young man. Just sayin’...

    Or, Brett Murray.

Just because Mannino did it to us does not make it right to do it back to them.

I don't care about results on the ice as much as I want to see this program produce upstanding gentlemen, who promote the program in a positive light.

I take pride in what Jake Guentzel has done for Omaha hockey. Archie, as well. That is the big picture here.

We should not sacrifice our morals just to keep up.

Obviously you don’t get sarcasm very well. That or you’re just argumentative. Carry on.

Boehm can be argumentative, or rather I see him as exploring all sides of an issue, not argumentative.  But I have a hard time seeing sarcasm in your comment, even with a smiley face.

I don't see it as immoral to feel out our past recruits that we lost to them.  I wouldn't talk to players that had never committed to us.  Personally, I don't care who plays here and who doesn't.  I'll always go to games, be a fan and try to get my girls to enjoy watching hockey.  But for those within the program, it's a business and wins keeps your job.

I think Ryan is echoing something I've hinted on: we can't get caught up in who isn't here. We cheer for the players who are here, who want to be here. Further, once they get here - we support them in their futures.

It would be nice if we only recruited 5-star athletes who will score 50 goals. The reality is: recruiting is a crapshoot, and you don't know what you have, or what their potential is until they get here. This is same reason I scoff at football and basketball signing days. It's snake oil peddling.

But, again, once these men arrive in Omaha -- they are 'ours'.

What I don't understand are the people who got down on Avery Peterson for leaving. Why? Everyone could see he was struggling with something outside of hockey. He needed to go home to be with family. This wasn't Andrew Tortorella flunking out. This wasn't Anthony Stolarz deciding (or the Philadelphia Flyers deciding) he was too great to share the net with anyone else. This was a kid, with a sick relative, and a lot on his mind.

     That's an extenuating circumstance.

Instead of bemoaning the players who choose to go elsewhere (maybe I should report we got one recruiting 'loss' back) we simply need to throw our support to the ones who do come to Baxter Arena. Support them. Help them grow. Watch them shine. Take pride in their successes: Luke Nogard, anyone?

Nogard - leading scorer on Norfolk.  Told me he was expecting to be called up to the AHL (Tucson) but it appears that hasnt happened yet.
