I'm still interested to figure out where the 3rd goaltender for next year will come from.
Last year was interesting in the USHL - as there were at least 3 goalies who left the NCAA to return to juniors. Omaha picked Tomek from that group. Bemidji got Zach Driscoll from SCSU via the Lancers. I believe Matt Jurusik (Wisconsin - Sioux City - Michigan Tech) was the other.
I'm not seeing a group like that this year.
There are also interesting stories behind the top two USHL goaltenders that are uncommitted. Both played in the World Juniors this year.
Akira Schmid (Lancers) would have to sit a year and a game, since he played one game in the WHL. That might actually put him in a position for 2020-21 when Tomek graduates.
The other is Roman Durny (Des Moines). I bring him up because he played in Slovakia's U-20 program. Slovakia's U-20 team actually plays as HK Orange 20 in the Slovak 1. Liga - a professional league. Does that render him ineligible for NCAA play?
To be honest, whoever the third goaltender coming in, is likely to be told he will redshirt. This makes it a low-risk signing for the Mavs, but a tough sell. We might be looking at an over-age player in the NAHL, looking for one last chance... or a flyer on a goalie out of the BCHL or AJHL.
