Interesting to note that only two Gabinet recruits are in the top 10 in point production.    Is UNO going back to the mike kemp era of hockey?

One thing about Blais he was able to attract some higher end talent to Omaha.

    Mason Morelli, F, Sr 18 12 9 21 1.17 50 24.0 8 1 7 0 -9
    Fredrik Olofsson, F, Sr 18 7 12 19 1.06 38 18.4 4 1 3 0 -3
    Zach Jordan, F, Jr 18 5 12 17 0.94 55 9.1 22 0 2 0 -10
    Taylor Ward, F, Fr 17 5 10 15 0.88 38 13.2 8 0 2 0 1
    Dean Stewart, D, Jr 18 4 10 14 0.78 33 12.1 21 0 1 0 1
    Tristan Keck, F, Jr 18 5 4 9 0.50 31 16.1 10 2 0 0 1
    Kevin Conley, F, So 18 3 4 7 0.39 31 9.7 10 0 2 0 -10
    Teemu Pulkkinen, F, Jr 13 1 5 6 0.46 24 4.2 21 0 1 0 -8
    Riley Alferd, F, Sr 16 3 2 5 0.31 18 16.7 18 0 0 1 -2
    Ryan Galt, F, Sr 17 2 3 5 0.29 18 11.1 42 0 2 0 -7

    Interesting...

If I recall correctly, Taylor Ward committed during Blais’s final season. Conley is the transfer from DU.

As tough as this season has been, it will be eye-opening to see what the team looks like next season without Morelli and Olofsson.

We have yet to see what sort of recruits Gabinet will be able to get — only a few glimpses so far.

Blais was able to get NHL-caliber forwards. The question is whether the entire game philosophy changes over the next few seasons and looks more like things did during the Kemp years.

Hard to say at this point. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

A bit unfair to say only two of Gabinet's recruits are in the top 10, he's only been the coach for two seasons.

Ugly weekend for the NCHC (and usa hockey in general)

    the good:

Denver continues to find ways to win with a sweep at wisconsin. not much was expected from DU this season but they are playing very well. going to be tough for uno next weekend to get any points. UNO hasn't beaten denver since nixon was in the white house -- I expect that trend to continue

the bad: St. Cloud getting the woodshed treatment by union. I know union is a pretty decent team but 7-2 yikes! it's not quite time to push the panic button at st cloud just yet, but im sure the defcon level is now at 4.

the ugly: UND. good grief. getting swept at Canisus. UND was 26-0-0 against Atlantic Hockey teams entering Friday.

Miami lost to providence but they did steal some more players.

other interesting notes from the college hockey landscape:

BC is now 0-19-4 (plus 3 Beanpot losses to Hockey East schools) in non-conference play dating back to beating the Sun Devils in November 2016.

Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College and Boston University are under .500. And UND lost to a team in AHA for first time in school history --- should be a fun ride the next few months.

    Cripes, what is going on?

     Who did Miami steal now?

I believe Miami just stole a player from Holy Cross...

Woof:  UNO with a gutsy effort this weekend only to come away empty handed.  Weninger played outstanding all weekend.  thought Morelli had a very nice weekend as well.   No time for self pity just have to move forward.

Western with a very good weekend.  Don't look now but the broncos currently sitting in 2nd place in the league.    Western has not has not trailed for the last 324:05 of hockey.

UMD and st. cloud split:  I expect to see a game in the Frozen faceoff between these two...

CC not quite getting over the hump loosing both games to UND in overtime.  thought CC would be able to win a few of these this year.    interesting stat: UND is 23rd in the Pairwise. Had UND swept Canisius, it would be 10th.

    Elsewhere:

Cornell with a couple nice wins against ASU.  think it may be a 3 horse race in the ECHC between Clarkson Cornell and Quinnipiac.

Notre dame has now lost 3 in a row dropping a pair to the rodents.

Northeastern continues to have a good season in hockey east.

Northern Michigan seems to have righted the ship now sitting in 2nd place in the WCHA

Gritty come from behind win for UNO on saturday!!! 4th straight game that UND has surrendered a two goal lead.

A glimmer of hope for the mavs as this season could have gone south very rapidly had they dropped both games this weekend.     Big test coming up next week.    Morelli getting a ton of ice time.. If he and ward could play 60 minutes that would be a dream come true.

Starting to get some separation with the top 2 teams in the league.  st cloud with a very impressive sweep of western to move them to #1 in the pairwise and UMD takes care of a not so good miami team.

DU with a frustrating weekend getting caught on the freeway friday and unable to make it to CC on friday and only getting a tie with CC saturday.    Du was down a couple goals before coming back to get the extra league point.

elsewhere:  status quo in the ecac as cornell, clarkson and quinnipiac keep rolling along.   will be interesting to see what happens at st. lawrence at the end of the year with that dumpster fire.

don't look now, but BC keeps hanging around with an impressive win at providence.   Jerry york summoning the black forces to make a late season run..

Umass splits with northeastern.   Carvel has done a sensational job at Umass.  just goes to show what happens when the school invests money into the program, and goes out and gets a top notch coach.   those two teams could meet in a hockey east final down the road.

In the Big ten, looks like its ohio state and everyone else.  OSU with a big sweep of penn state.  OSU had a good run to the frozen four last year and looks as though they have the team to make another deep run.

Lake state gets a win at mankato.  could be a sleeper come wcha playoff time.

Miami may not be the best, but Duluth shut them out both games too.

Miami and Western are hard to figure sometimes.

The RedHawks have only had one winning season (2014-15) since we’ve been in the NCHC.

Western has played good hockey this season, but St. Cloud took them out 3-0 and 5-3, so I still am not sure whether they’ll compete for the conference championship or not.
