I hope a friendly Mav fan can help me out.  Will be visiting Baxter next month and was wondering if there is a designated (or somewhat designated) Visitors section?

Jim: As Chris mentioned, a number of visitors seem to sit in the Club Section(s) each week (103-106) — those seats are pricier, but you get access to (and sit in front of) the Club Lounge (which has mixed drinks, its own concession stand, and its own restrooms). And yes, there are available seats in those sections that can be purchased on a single-game basis (we've seen a number of NoDak fans sitting there over the years, along with other visitors).

I also see visiting fans in Section 102 quite a bit in the lower bowl. We also see visiting fans in 223 and 224 in the upper bowl end.

You might contact the box office — 402-554-MAVS — and ask for Derek (who is the ticket manager). I've never quite known what sections they have designated for visitors in the arena.

As a general rule, our fans are friendly. I don't think you'd have an issue in most any section you chose.

Thank you so much for the info.  We were at games in 2017 and indeed experienced that your Mav fans are friendly and knowledgeable hockey fans.  I recall sitting in upper level on the side, but no visiting fans were around.  Love your arena - makes us excited to come back.

    Just going to add:

When I'm walking the concourse, the most-often places I see visiting parents are 119-120 and 109-ish (which is the Student Section, above where the visiting team access the rink.

I think the Denver series showed us something that shouldn’t be overlooked. On Friday night, it is my belief that the Mavs were playing Denver even. That is until they received a questionable five minute major for contact with the head.

In my humble opinion, worst case scenario should’ve been in two minutes for inadvertent contact, but I saw nothing that Matt Miller did to warrant five. I was of the opinion that it was potentially interference by the Denver player. Regardless, not only did that situation allow for two Denver goals, but it killed the Mavs offense over a 5 to 8 minute period .

Put in that situation, the Mavericks did fold when trying to get something going. But they did stage something of a come back in the third.

Saturday night, once again, the game through the first period in my opinion was even. And the Sunday Matinee proved that Omaha can play with Denver, which was inspiring.

I honestly believe that the two teams that will give us the most trouble this year are North Dakota and St. Cloud state. Just my opinion.

The goaltending is reasonably solid, the defensive play as well. Goals scoring seems to be picking up with those expected to carry the load. Time will tell.

I am more than happy to take points on the road against DU.   good response by the mavs in the 2nd game of the series.  they fought through some adversity and got it done.  very pleased with how this weekend ended up.

What I'm not pleased with is the contact to the head call against miller during Fridays game.   I generally don't like that rule to begin with.  I didn't think it warranted a penalty at all.  the DU skater had his head down and miller was just skating toward the play at the time.   I guess they decided on replay that they got it wrong originally they may as well go the extra mile and call the major.

elsewhere:  (please note some of this is from Brad Schlossman's twitter feed @schlossmangf -- credit where credit is due)

UND continues to roll along with a sweep of miami.  that rebuilt UND defense is blocking shots and ex miami goalie persson has looked very good.

St. Cloud has really righted the ship.  Basse has allowed just 5 goals in 5 games for scsu.

speaking of goals -- they are hard to come by for UMD right now.   Bulldogs have just 8 goals in their last 7 games and are currently on their longest loosing streak since 2012-2013

Western gets a sweep at CC.   the thing that jumps out about WMU is their top two scorers have accounted for 67 out of 101 points.  I don't think that is sustainable in the long run

    Elsewhere:

AIC quietly putting together a nice season.  good win against vermont.  can they challenge the top dogs of RIT?

Coaching makes a difference:  how about Wisconsin and MSU?   reminds me of when Jeff Jackson got hired at notre dame.  the improvement was almost instantaneous.

For those paying attention it's not the 90's but how about Maine and UNH playing competitively for the first time in a long time.  Very first frozen four for me was in 2002 when both teams made it in.   nice to see some old time programs rise once again.

I've been railing on this since it happened.

I'm not sold on this. We're talking about Alaska, Miami OF OHIO, and Duluth.

You should hear the reports that came out of Colorado Spring and Denver about Basse before he transferred.

If save percentage is your measuring stick, Basse is in the middle of the college hockey pack so far at 0.907.  Same as last season, about right in the middle.  Don't overlook the Western Michigan sweep in Kalamazoo either prior to the Duluth series.  In the NCHC, perhaps it is Perrson at UND that has overachieved early on.

Both Perrson and (former Maverick) Cam Berg have been thriving with North Dakota...

Good sweep for the mavs this weekend.   Mancini is starting to become more of a factor in the offensive zone which is great to see.  another nice thing was the balanced scoring attack.   I think they can grab some much needed conference points against UMD.

Elsewhere:  Miami splits with Mercyhurst.  If you want something fun and entertaining check out miami hawk talk.  it's interesting to say the least.

UND takes care of bemidji.   I've been impressed with UND's defense this year.

DU continues the scorefest against a hapless yale squad.  the one thing that concerns me abou DU is they give up some goals.

St. cloud gets a tie Saturday against michigan.  Pretty impressive given they were down 3-0.

    Starting?

Where have you been the past three seasons? He's been a factor since he arrived. He just hasn't seen the results on the stat sheet.
