I was thinking about this the other day, and then Jon noted (in another topic) some names who have passed through Omaha as assistant coaches. It makes for a very impressive coaching tree who have gone on to be Head Coaches -- and it started on Day One.

Assistants who have become head coaches (NCAA or higher):

David Quinn - Lake Erie (AHL), Boston U (NCAA), NY Rangers (NHL), San Jose (NHL)

Steve Rohlik - Ohio State (NCAA)

    Doc DelCastillo - Alaska (NCAA)

Mike Hastings - Minnesota State (NCAA), Wisconsin (NCAA)

    Alex Todd - Trine (NCHA)

Players who have become coaches (Juniors or higher):

Billy Pugliese - Jamestown (NAHL) [I believe he's involved with Lincoln, now.]

Rob Facca - Lincoln (USHL), Omaha (NCAA), Western Michigan (NCAA)

Tom Kowal - Youngstown (NAHL), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (NAHL)

John Rosso - Alexandria (NAHL), Mercyhurst (NCAA)

David Noel-Bernier - Muskegeon (USHL), Grand Rapids (AHL), Detroit (NHL), Omaha (NCAA)

    Derek Reynolds - Lincoln (USHL)

Nick Fohr - Omaha (NCAA), USNDP (USHL)

    Jason White - Midland (ACHA)

Ryan Bencurik - Lincoln (USHL), Tri-City (USHL)

    David Brisson - Omaha (NCAA)

    Mike Gabinet - Omaha (NCAA)

Ryan Bennett - Corpus Christi (NAHL), Des Moines (USHL)

Brent Kisio - Calgary (WHL), Lethbridge (WHL)

    Chris Holt - Lincoln (USHL)

    Bobby Henderson - Langley (BCHL)

    Jeremie Dupont - Trenton (OJHL)

Jake Skjodt - Arizona State (NCAA)

    John Faulkner - Omaha (USHL)

    Ryan Massa - Denver (NCAA)

    Kirk Thompson - Omaha (NCAA)

    Ryan Galt - Madison (USHL)

Galt and Dominic Zombo are both newly minted assistants at Madison (USHL).

Facca did have a short stint at Northern Michigan before going to Western Michigan.

Former UNO assistant Tom Mutch (who was also an assistant for Hastings with the Lancers) went on to become the head coach of the BC women's team (which ended in a scandal).

Former UNO assistant Peter Mannino was the head coach of the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) for two seasons (not NCAA, but I thought I'd mention it).
