Arctic plunge? Are the F'n Hawks coming already?

Bridget sounds like my grandmother: "It's gonna snow, get home!"

Jason was right. Jon very much could have been. Jason confirms -- UNO played really well Friday, easy to see them winning Friday.

Scanlin is a #1 D in the making. Nice to have him in the second pairing this year.

I still say because you made it 3-2 at 5-on-5. Give your guys a chance to do it again at 5-on-5. You'll still have 45 to 60 seconds at 6-on-5. But you can't let Wisconsin kill the game on a single clearance.

Jason, can you give us a visual reference on your drawn-up 6-on-5 play?

I'm for feel over statistics. Jon makes a valid point of the visual/physical perspective -- we may need to revisit this when it comes to officials and their calls (but not this week).

Noticing we have had physical games, fracases, scrums in just about every game this season: Huntsville, Ohio State, Wisconsin... did we have any with Anchorage?

Bumping the goaltender is the oldest trick in the book. Test the mental strength of the goalies. Some goalies come unglued on contact (NHL example: Corey Crawford). But some goalies, it gets them in to the game. Assessment on myself: teams were better off leaving me alone. If I got bumped or whacked or took one in the head... I was going to make your life a living hell the rest of the night. Do everything I could to frustrate you. Sometimes it flips the switch.

Wisconsin has a very talented freshman class. Caufield and Turcotte. Is Lindmark a frosh, too? But they lack consistency. Also noticed they have no size.

Yes: get out of town, and do well the rest of the year to help us.

Penalty issues. Is it discipline, or does Gabinet have these guys playing with an edge?

Sundberg's goal was of the Luke Nogard variety. Dig for the lose pucks on the blue paint.

Weiss is healthy. That has to be helping him.

We can just leave after Abate scores -- the result is confirmed at that point.

Do you think Sullivan is listening? Are we having those lurking issues again?

As the 4th line center, Sullivan has a role. That's usually a big role on a checking line. I would keep an eye on if Nolan is on the ice late in close games, or even on penalty kills in our end. Situations when you need to win a face off. I think Pulkkinen is still Gabby's go to, but let's see how it develops.

Scanlin has a hot stick, right now. Proctor has worked his way from 7th defenseman in to a full-time pairing. I'm sure he'll keep advancing. If one can play the right side -- maybe Scanlin and Proctor become the second pair.

    OOOOOH JOEY ABAAAAAAATE!

New hype video. Are we sabotaging ourselves?

Jon: rate the video on a scale of exploding cans of vanilla coke (low) to Steve Jobs press conference (high)

I'd like to see not just nation's flag... but also state/province. Nations for Europeans.

pfffffffft pffffffft  -- can they mount these on the scoreboard? Or somewhere more natural.  I'd still like the goal horn pointed at the visitor's goal (or bench). You just gave up a goal -- now you have to listen to THIS in your ear!

Ahhh... the fire extinguishers. You never saw that budget expense in the World Herald.

Two years too late on needing to fog out Baxter Arena so we can't see the games.

Over the top annoying... please see my comment about the goal horn. Fog machines constantly going will draw angry letters from fans... like Bridget.

Do they still set off the fire alarms by raising or lowering the scoreboard?

This is a budget fix for Omaha Athletics. Bringing back the milk jugs, wait for the bottoms of the cartons to blow out, and someone at Baxter Arena gets to collect all the coins on the floor.

Bring back the Stampede! Maybe do the Stampede during holidays, like the Badger Showdown used to be.

    Definitely need more noise.

Charity... you're reminding me I need to publicize my MavsUnited fundraiser.

    Cash is king!

Do you just say 'Ok, Boomer'? That is sooooo offensive. Who do you think you are? Don Cherry?

Oh, hey... we're back on track. Talking about hockey things.

No no no... DO NOT MENTION THE CURSED BUS TRIP. You know what happened. This is two weeks in a row you've mentioned the horrors of road trips.

There have been some great families at UNO: Parses, Lefleys, Eickmans -- all from that era leading up to our first NCAA appearance. Marshalls, too. Jalen Schulz' parents have been great the past couple years too.

Western are trash. They have talent, but they're trash. They're cheap. Going to be a very physical series. If you think we were testy with UAH, OSU, or Wisco... oh boy.

Consistency. Who has it? Who doesn't?

Worth noting that Ferris State is 2-7-0. They are not good. Bob Daniels' days are numbered. Ferris has only beat Colgate and Miami. Not impressive.

Shootout -- in the barn burner sense? I'm thinking Shootout as in at the O.K. Corral.

Another measuring stick weekend for the Mavericks. How are we against a conference foe... one who is likely to finish in the middle of the pack (3rd to 6th)?

    Nice...!

Bridget’s exploding collection of Vanilla Coke — in the storage area along our basement staircase — was not one of our finer household moments. ;-)

Would love to have seen a sweep, that third period Friday was pretty exciting, we really pushed the tempo.

Always fun to see new guys come in a make a difference.  See how things go, I remember thinking I liked Klehr when he came in and now he's nowhere.

I still say because you made it 3-2 at 5-on-5. Give your guys a chance to do it again at 5-on-5. You'll still have 45 to 60 seconds at 6-on-5. But you can't let Wisconsin kill the game on a single clearance.

I had left before we pulled our goalie (kids were tired and bored and eldest ended up throwing up about 3am so clearly wasn't feeling good so don't get me started on leaving early), but from what everybody is saying I'm confused as to why we pulled our goalie, even though I enjoy subscribing to the new theory of pulling your goalie early, think that was a trend started by Roy when he was coaching the Avs, although I'm not sure how you really say who started that trend.  This isn't a minor quibble Jon, they should know when to pull the goalie.

Hell, Boehmer flips a switch for shit simpler than this even!  i.e. no defense.

Wisconsin has a very talented freshman class. Caufield and Turcotte. Is Lindmark a frosh, too? But they lack consistency. Also noticed they have no size.

OMG right!  They got freakin midgets out there!  5'9" and under litters their roster.  Which isn't to say a small guy can't play.  We saw Grimaldi for years and he's been around the NHL, tons of other small guys too.  Marty St. Louis.

Penalty issues. Is it discipline, or does Gabinet have these guys playing with an edge?

Can play with an edge but be smart.  But again, some of those penalties were just such bad calls.  I can't get over the Smallidge interference Friday night when it seemed like he was just trying to keep a Wisconsin guy from entering the scrum at center ice.

Sundberg's goal was of the Luke Nogard variety. Dig for the lose pucks on the blue paint.

His assist on the last goal Saturday was choice.

We can just leave after Abate scores -- the result is confirmed at that point.

    That's hilarious.

    OOOOOH JOEY ABAAAAAAATE!

    He is fun to watch.

I'd like to see not just nation's flag... but also state/province. Nations for Europeans.

Agree with Jason, should have the year.

Two years too late on needing to fog out Baxter Arena so we can't see the games.

Enjoyed Jason's reference to the fog in the early morning arriving for 7am practice, the good dope days when I used to know how to score.  Same with the milk jugs reference, all the moms had'em.  And the PA system as an addition to the environment....I remember as a kid just loving getting to the St. Cloud games for lineups, announcer would have to scream Husky names just to be heard over Metallica playing.  It helps that I love Metallica though too.

Bring back the Stampede! Maybe do the Stampede during holidays, like the Badger Showdown used to be.

Would love this.  Get rid of the around Christmas series we seem to play, this year with ASU.  Anchorage last year.  You'd think with us being in the NCHC we'd be able to get some good teams in here.  Love playing the big programs like Wisconsin and was mad I had to sit and watch Manitoba in the Stampede that year when I saw they had had programs like Denver (before we were conference foes) and Maine in town in years prior.

    Definitely need more noise.

OMG PLEASE turn up the volume!  Granted I've only seen five periods at home this year but I haven't heard Motley Crue once!!  Sometimes I dream of what songs I'd play if they let me run the music.

Western are trash. They have talent, but they're trash. They're cheap. Going to be a very physical series. If you think we were testy with UAH, OSU, or Wisco... oh boy.

If somebody doesn't absolutely plow Hugh McGing this weekend I'm gonna be pissed!  I don't even care if you take a major to do it.

Consistency. Who has it? Who doesn't?

Just call a sweep for god's sakes!  Agree with Jason about being accused of being lucky.  As I watch Wild games, especially now that we suck, I try to keep myself from falling into the trap of thinking we were just lucky to beat one of the good teams.  Sometimes even the Wild can play a full game and every NHL team has enough talent to shut down even the best of teams.  UNO will do that this weekend, which isn't to even say we're the twizzlerstier team in this matchup.  Twizzlerstier, best word ever.  That call on Smallidge was the twizzlerstiest.  Even better.

Another measuring stick weekend for the Mavericks. How are we against a conference foe... one who is likely to finish in the middle of the pack (3rd to 6th)?

I don't like to keep using the term "measuring stick" but it has been a nice progression to the season, how the competition and games have gradually become more important and greater measuring sticks.  Still remains something to be said for an early season win.  I feel like I remember beating UNH (in their bit of a hayday) in the Stampede the year we made the NCAA's in 2006 or whatever.  It was bugging me so I had to go look, beat them 5-3 in championship of 2005-06 Stampede.  And then got obliterated by BU in NCAA's.

Jason, c'mon man, Ovi-esque?  No, Pope-esque.  Be a fan man.

I never pictured Jon being the type to swear so even when you told the team to "beat those bastards", I envisioned you behind the microphone still using air quotes just to take the edge off of swearing like you felt a little guilty about swearing.  Jon: Yeah c'mon beat those "bastards"!  Jason spill the beans, did he use air quotes?

Dude, I use “air quotes” during the podcast all the time...

This is why we need video. ;-)

Valid. Fine line. Need to find that line.

I enjoyed the refernce, too. Ames/ISU was like this. Working at Tranquility was like that.

    Jon, it's catching on!

OK... let's turn this in to Cruisin' World... CHECKPOINT!
