Thanks Ryan, I was just reading more into it than necessary. One second of an otherwise bad week. No harm. ; )

First off: I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!  -- it's a great time to count your blessings and I'm fortunate to have met and/or interacted with all of you over the years.

there was no mav hockey but some other results that must be mentioned:

Miami gets swept by uconn.  makes the mavs lost weekend against miami that much more disappointing and depressing.

UMD gets swept by mankato:   Mankato first team to win sweep a non-conference series in Duluth since Bemidji State on Oct. 7-8, 2005.

Mavs have a golden opportunity next weekend.  UMD is banged up and very inconsistent.   Not to be over dramatic, but a very critical series for the mavs next weekend.  we will find out if they are contenders or pretenders.

UND boat races minnesota thursday and completes the sweep friday.  gopher fans not happy at all while UND continues to impress.

Bowling Green certainly impressed me this weekend with a sweep of Notre dame.    Definitely in the mix for a tournament spot come march.

Cornell keeps rolling.  a very interesting showdown looms with harvard next weekend.  Pay close attention to that series.

Feel good for UAH notching their first win.  that can't be easy knowing they have no conference

Fairbanks is sitting at 7-5-0 despite facing the budget cut ax and they no longer have a conference home in a few years.  that has to be a nearly impossible situation to get recruits there, but so far they are holding it together with duct tape and glue.   pretty impressive if you ask me.

as always comments/concerns/criticisms are always welcome.

Make mavpuck great again! -- btw was in indiana over the weekend with the famdamily.  anyone remember the nice blue curtain at the edmund P joyce athletic and convocation center?

Mavs with way too many defensive breakdowns this weekend.   once UMD established their forecheck they took over.    perhaps those early wins against wisconsin and western got the expectations up a little higher than reality.    Saturday felt like the mavs were making their last stand on the season, unfortunately came up a bit short.

some bright spots like abate and sullivan this year to be sure, but I have a feeling after saturday that it's time to look ahead to next year.. (and I hate to say that this early)

No easy games the rest of the way so could be very tough sledding for the mavs.

ASU gets a win and a tie against DU.   ASU is a lot better than people give them credit for.   they need to do something about that condemned  building known as oceanside.

St cloud got back into the win column with a sweep against miami.    perhaps St. Cloud is finally putting it together or perhaps miami isn't very good.

UND pounded WMU saturday.   right now its a two horse race between UND and UMD.   after an off season UND is very very good this year.

BC sweeps Notre dame convincingly.  the domers have really fallen off.   think they are something like 1-7-1 in their last 8 games.

Hockey east continues to have a core of teams that are in the mix.  only 4 points separate 8th place from 1st.

Kevin Sneddon at vermont may not last all season.  have a feeling he will be asked to step down at the end of the year or get the retire or else speech.   vermont is having a terrible year.

Cornell with a big win against harvard and then loose to dartmouth??  Cornell still head and shoulders above everyone else in the ECAC

Have not talked about Sacred Heart, but they swept robert morris this weekend and now are on top in atlantic hockey.  raise your hand if you saw that coming.  glad to see them have some success.  like AIC they had been doormats for years.

Most teams are on holiday break, but the mavs get a little xmas magic on saturday pulling out a much needed win.   A glimmer of hope after being routed on friday.

Saville off the the world juniors for a while.   Looking forward to seeing what roden can do.  Savillle has made some highlight reel saves but with a save percentage around .890 (granted not all is fault) he hasn't been exactly all world.   A very tough non conference series coming up with ASU. (and no they shouldn't be a NCHC member)

DU gets a big leg up on the gold pan with a sweep of CC.  If DU can get some more consistency on offense they could make a run in the second half.

head scratcher by mankato dropping a game to NMU.    I still question if Mankato has what it takes come NCAA tournament time.

The Mavs really needed that win on Saturday...

Getting a pair of wins against Arizona State (which will be very difficult) would send UNO into the Christmas/New Year’s break with 9 wins.

That would be a better first half finish than most fans would have predicted in September. Despite the struggles in NCHC play, it might prove to be a positive for the team.

Like you, I am looking forward to see what Roden (and possibly Zab) can do in net. Roden is a player who faced a lot of shots in the BCHL last season, so I think he’ll perform well. Nice opportunity for him.

A bit late on this (like anyone reads this anyway)

only one game but the mavs with a very nice win on saturday.  other than roden thinking the puck was a grenade friday and a 5 minute meltdown saturday mavs dominated play.   last year these games would have seen uno loose 7-2 -- this years mav team much much different.    they have a great chance to move up the nchc in the second half but it won't be easy.

I still think it's a two horse race between UMD and UND.  Denver troubles me with their offense vanishing for long stretches.   CC could be a dark horse to end up in st. paul.

    brief look elsewhere:

sacred heart continues to impress in atlantic hockey.  didn't see that coming at all.   very solid team this year.  keep an eye on RIT.  haven't talked about them but they are hanging around near the top of the standings.  would not surprise me to see them win the tournament and get the auto bid.

in the ECAC  it's cornell and everyone else.   keep an eye on clarkson in the second half though.   they are right behind the big red and are a ncaa lock in my opinion.

In hockey east I'm still beating the BC drum.    think they are a lot better than their record indicates and the dark lord jerry york will have them ready for the hockey east tournament.   Umass-lowell also could sneak in there.

in the WCHA it's obviously mankato and everyone else.  Bowling green should be a tournament team.

in the Big10 -- still bullish on ohio state and penn state.  msu has had a very nice season but I don't think they can continue.   can penn state play enough defense to get them an autobid?

wish all of the mavpuck faithful a happy holiday.  see U for DU!

meh sums up this weekend against maine.   maine is a much improved team, but they are not an NCHC caliber team.  simply put: mavs have to find ways to win games like these.    Ya they aren't getting blown out this year, but both nites the team was ahead and allowed maine back in it.  that is not a recipe for success. (please note didn't watch either game so interested from those that did)

no more nites off from the nchc meat grinder stating next week against UND.  while UNO has had some success there, this years UND team is very very good.   I expect saville will be in net both nites.

St. Cloud thumped Mankato but lost to minnesota.  a little bit of good and bad there.  minnesota isn't very good.  let's see if st. cloud can get it together in the 2nd half

UMD easy wins over a hapless merrimack squad.  to be expected.

DU a very impressive weekend with their sweep of umass.   DU continues to find ways to win.  been a little bit of an up and down year for the pios, but they are poised to make a run

as of this posting wmu is getting pasted by notre dame.  is this the beginning of wmu's swoon?

    brief look elsewhere:

Cornell takes their bruising style to sin city and beats osu and ties providence.    Have not seen cornell in person but they are beasts.

interesting stat from the twitterverse: (from nate wells and chris dilks)

Bowling Green dropped from 7 to 24 in the Pairwise after losing its last 4 games to Lake Superior State, Miami and now Northern Michigan twice.

After winning 3 of 4 vs. Minn St/BGSU, Northern Michigan has moved from 29 to 20 in the Pairwise. Still some room for upward mobility with away series at Cornell and Minn State left on schedule

hoping the new year finds the mavs playing in the frozen faceoff.  I will be in attendance again this year.  if you have never gone I encourage a trip.  it's an awesome event and I always have a good time.

I think this is a critical weekend for the Mavs.

Playing at North Dakota this weekend, followed by a home series against Denver, then a trip to CC... it’s not going to get much easier

They have to have positive results. That’s a tall order going into Grand Forks this season.

We’re 2-5-1 in conference play so far this season. We’re 4-8-3 overall since October.

We can’t get too far behind the 8-ball the next month. They need to keep pulling positive results out of each series going forward to stay in the conference points race — that’ll be key to a strong finish down the stretch.
