Mavs looked pretty good this weekend against an overmatched opponent.   would love to see Mancini and Ludtke get healthy.   I don't know the status of either.   until saturday I didn't know that Randl lead the NCAA's in goals.  -- that line as been a pleasant surprise.

one tweak I would make is less Rollwagen and more Fust on that 4th line.  I think Fust gives that 4th line a little more jump.

the cupcake schedule is now over.  are the mavs going to be any good in conference play?  we will find out (look at what happened to miami this weekend)

UMD must have had the rath the sandelin come down on them as they looked very good in a sweep of cornell.

St. Cloud dropping a game to Bemidji isn't a big surprise.  Bemidji is very frustrating to play against.

Ohio State takes a game from Minnesota.  OSU is one of those teams that always seem to fly under the radar, but they usually have a good team that nobody really pays attention to.

Sacred Heart could be the best team in atlantic hockey right now.

in the Mel Pearson invitational Michigan takes both games from Western in Overtime.   I'm confused about Western this year.   Looks like the offense is there but the defense seems a leaky.

The Tony Granato Watch continues at Wisconsin.   Does he survive the year?

I disagree. Rollwagen was a force, last night. Really liked what I saw from Rollwagen-Abgrall/Mitchell-Bohlsen.

Fust strikes me as a Martin Sunberg type, but I haven't seen him do much.

Cameron Rowe is the explanation. (Glad he didn't make it to Omaha.) He's a spazz. An apt replacement for the headcase that was Brandon Bussi.

Got to agree with you Chris. Rollwagen has a bomb of a shot and has good wheels. Can get a bit chippy, but that was the press that preceded him. Bohlsen got one, a  sniper when he leans into it. Have to say that Mitchell hasn’t found it yet, hope that egg hatches soon. Liking the French connection on defense, especially knowing that there is still plenty of upside.

I'm just gonna go all positive this week

Great weekend of Maverick athletics all the way around:  shout out to Women's soccer for making the NCAA tournament! well done! -- also big props to women's volleyball and men's soccer!

(plus Kansas football is bowl eligible - first time since 2008 and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln lost their football game -- so happy that both happened!)

anyway:  I'm very happy with the Saturday result.  Gives the team some momentum going into a series with UMD

Speaking of which:  UMD has some issues right now.  Defensively they are leaking some oil with is a surprise coming from them.  good opportunity for points coming up for the Mavs!

DU and SCSU series did not disappoint.  I am starting to become a believer in SCSU.

Miami continues their struggles in NCHC play as they get demolished by Western.  (I know some of the miami fans want to downgrade conferences but I don't see that happening.

Good series out east between Providence and Umass -- I don't think the flagship is as good as they have been in recent past but they are still going to be a force in hockey east.

in the ECAC: it's harvard/Quinnipiac and everyone else.  Harvard has a boat load of talent on that roster this year.  I fully expect them to be in the NCAA tournament mix when the time comes.

Minnesota is probably the best team in the big10 - impressive wins over Notre dame.

also: Tony Granato watch day 895 (or something like that) -- wisconsin is bad.  like really bad.

    Good vibes only, right, Quinn?

Good for Kansas, though I'm indifferent. Love the second part.

What a turn around from Friday to Saturday. It really makes you feel like Friday could have been a lost opportunity for Omaha (I'll start a new thread, so I don't hi-jack yours.)

Momentum and confidence. We thought we had it after the Lake State series. Let's hope we can carry through deeper into conference play. The NCHC is wide open -- aside from SCSU and Denver.

This shocks me. Didn't Sandelin win a National Championship with something like 7 freshmen on defense, one year?

DU and SCSU series did not disappoint.  I am starting to become a believer in SCSU.

Did not know what to make of Cloud. The shocker of that situation is how well Basse has played. He looked good-ish early at CC, but that was under Haviland. Mayotte clearly had no confidence in him, and he regressed to what he was behind a bad team in Youngstown.

I thought the Huskies would need to win 8-6. But having the offense we knew they did can relax the goaltenders. They can play relaxed -- knowing one goal against isn't going to kill them (unlike... ... ...Omaha).

Fortune favors the brave and UNO gets 4 points this weekend.

Friday UNO takes advantage of a dubious penalty to get the win and Saturday was just due to hard work.  (and the mavs caught UMD at a good time -- they are a bit snakebit right now -- I suspect the UMD team that comes to baxter will be a little different)

Good thing the Mavs powerplay bailed them out Friday.  I still maintain that getting outplayed 5X5 for long stretches of time is not a sustainable model.    Nice time for a bye week with Denver and Western looming.

If I was commissioner  for a day I would revoke the contact to the head penalty and tweak the review process -- I get the whole player safety but at some point it results in the over officiating of games.  contact to the head - good rule in theory but in practice not so much. (and get rid of full cages while we are at it)

speaking of which:  st. cloud was on the receiving end  of a couple questionable calls friday but rebounded with a nice win against western sat.

I'm sure the siouxsports forum is shall we say salty after getting swept by Denver.  UND has some offensive issues and giving up 6 goals on saturday -- not great.

CC continues to show they are making progress in the rebuild with a nice tie and win against miami.  -- CC and UNO should be interesting.  I actually expect a CC sweep in that one.

I believe I mentioned Uconn last week but keep an eye on Merrimack.  another agent of chaos in hockey east.

RIT is this weeks winner of best team in Atlantic hockey getting a sweep over last weeks nominee.

No UNO hockey but some interesting game action in the NCHC:

Huge weekend coming up against Denver for the mavs -- hoping for points but expecting nothing.

What a wild series between UMD and Western:  Lots of goals including an own goal.  UMD shorthanded way too much saturday to overcome western but get out out lawson with a split.

St. Cloud dominates CC.  St. cloud continues to impress

Miami takes one from UND:  big win for miami on the road and that UND team has some offensive issues.  something to watch if it becomes a trend.

Michigan gets swept but they were extremely short handed (hope the vax didn't get them) -- prayers go to Michigan D steven holz who is in the ICU as of this writing.

Northern takes one from mankato.  Northern seems to have some success against mankato and they can possibly disrupt mankato's steamroll to the CCHA title.

This mav team continues to surprise me.  had du on their heals with their aggressive play friday.  the game got away from them with the penalties saturday but I will take the split.   (and the contact to the head rule needs to go and replay is broken - but that's another thread)

the top line of the mavs continues to exceed my expectations.  so far the mavs have been much better than I anticipated.

Haven't talked about michigan state yet on this thread, but they are quietly putting together a pretty good season.

Connecticut has also been a pleasant surprise even though they did get crushed by cornell this weekend.
